Letter of Support (via email) from Croston Parish Council to Rufford & Holmeswood Parish Council

Mr Forshaw

Opposition to proposals to reduce Environment Agency pumped drainage of Lower Alt and Crossens Mosses

Having been advised of the EA report proposing to reduce pumped drainage of these Mosses and, having received reports of the recent meetings in Rufford (21/11/2011) and Banks (28/11/2011), Croston Parish Council wishes to express its support for your campaign to oppose the reduction in pumping.

The Parish Council is concerned that any changes to raise the water table in Rufford and Holmeswood mosses would have knock on effects in consequent rises in the water tables of Mawdesley and Croston mosses, which would in turn increase the risks of flooding in Croston.

The Parish Council also wishes to oppose the concept that residents in the lower reaches of drainage systems should be left to shoulder the burden of flood risks arising from the developments and sewage discharges upstream.

Please keep us informed of the progress of your campaign and what we might consider to oppose these proposals.

Alan
